Biochar redefined: TerraCoal® adds value to substrates

In commercial horticulture, growing media play a key role in efficient, high-yield plant production. At the same time, they must increasingly meet sustainability criteria without compromising on quality and functionality. This is where TerraCoal comes in: as a new substrate component, Klasmann-Deilmann’s high-quality biochar offers real advantages in crop management and paves the way for climate-neutral substrates. Key benefits TerraCoal is a structurally stable biochar produced mainly from wood-based raw materials using a pyrolysis process. As a component in substrates,

Hervé Simier chooses the Growcoon

The French magazine ‘Le Lien Horticole’ presents the Growcoon. The growing system is embedded in the impressive success story of our customer Hervé Simier. Simier, a leading supplier of plants for urban greening, has been successfully using the biodegradable Growcoon to replace plastic pots in plant production since 2020. A special dispenser was then developed to distribute the Growcoons into the pots. Simier started the first trials with a 7 cm Growcoon for a few customers in 2020. His employees

Perlite coarse, Perlite fine

Optimised production in Silute Over the past year, our team in Silute, Lithuania, has further optimized perlite production. The raw perlite material is now first screened out in order to separate unwanted fine grains. Since then, we have obtained a noticeably higher quality fraction in the subsequent production of “coarse perlite”. The second major advantage, however, is that “fine perlite” can now be produced from the screened fine raw perlite. Our team in Silute deserves great credit for this development.

A real milestone

New production line in Australia We are pleased to announce a significant milestone: Australian Growing Solutions has successfully commissioned a new filling line and packaging line. This is an important event, as we can now present the very first AGS and K-Growbags. In the first run in automatic mode, we produced strawberry growbags. This was followed by the first order of growbags for peppers. For us, this is a significant start, which underlines our customers’ confidence in our new products and

Nygaia obtains OK Compost certificate

Nygaia has received the “OK Compost Industrial” certificate from TÜV Austria. This means that our innovative substrate fiber has proven its full degradability in industrial composting plants. Nygaia has great potential to become the sustainable substrate fiber of the future. It ensures that no residues remain after a product’s life cycle that have a negative impact

Accompany customers closely

800,000 m³ of alternative components in the substrate The substrate industry in Europe is undergoing a fundamental change. Peat, the most important raw material, is increasingly being replaced by alternative components. Manufacturers are therefore investing in new production facilities and resources, as well as research and development. Nurseries also have to adapt. Dr. Sebastian Kipp, Head of Product Development at Klasmann-Deilmann, talks about the progress made in this development. For decades, horticulture was geared to peat. Kipp: In fact, one

GreenFibre as a recipe for success

Successful strawberry cultivation in the Netherlands Strawberries are grown outdoors, in foil tunnels or in greenhouses. We are aware of this diversity and offer our customers the right substrate in each of these areas. To achieve successful cultivation results, we rely on a combination of selected raw materials. Alternative constituents are becoming increasingly popular because they contribute to good cultivation results. We have developed a substrate based on wood fibre especially for growing strawberries. Lemmen Strawberries, a customer of our
