Commercial horticulture needs more options. With global population growth driving up demand for healthy foodstuffs, the industry must avail itself of all possibilities so that it can produce the substrates required. The age of purely peat-based growing media is at an end; the future direction will be about continuously expanding the range of alternative constituents.

Plant diseases must be effectively suppressed. Adding biological stimulants can give a substrate just such a suppressive effect, and we have investigated how strong this action is. Our green-compost product TerrAktiv PLUS was among those tested, and proved the most effective.

The Growcoon lasts only as long as it needs to, breaking down during nursery cultivation. Commercial growers now have two different versions to choose between. The tried-and-tested Growcoon Regular takes longer to biodegrade, whereas the new Growcoon Progressive decomposes far more rapidly, making it even more sustainable.

Coir products form an ideal foundation for the healthy growth of many different crops. They have long been a proven constituent of numerous substrate blends. Our customers are now benefiting even more from coir in the form of fibre, chips, etc.

Use of designations such as ‘organic’, and the German-language equivalent Bio, is increasingly subject to stronger protection. We will soon no longer be allowed to use the term Bio for our products in this sector. That’s why we will be launching a new name on 1 January 2021.
