New production site in France

Klasmann-Deilmann France and Biolandes Pin Décor strengthen partnership

Klasmann-Deilmann France is expanding its own production network with a second site in the south-west of the country. The new production line is the result of a strategic partnership with Biolandes Pin Décor and represents an important milestone for further growth in France. Klasmann-Deilmann France has already been operating a successful production partnership with Méditourbe in Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône since 2021.

Biolandes Pin Décor is an important player in the end user segment for substrates and mulch materials. Our two family businesses have been working together successfully for several years. The partnership is based on shared values of quality, innovation and respect for each other. Together, a synergy has now been created that meets the needs of nurseries while using locally available resources.

Biolandes Pin Décor has invested heavily in the expansion of the existing production site. The new production line for growing media is similar to the facilities in Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône and is now up and running. The new capacity will enable Klasmann-Deilmann France to supply nurseries and especially tree nurseries in south-western France with immediate effect.

The common goal is to manage the forests in the “Landes” region sustainably. Biolandes will continue to extract essential oils from the trees there and Klasmann-Deilmann France will process wood residues and bark into high-quality substrates to which peat is no longer added. To this end, trials have been carried out in selected nurseries since the end of 2023 to test the new raw materials and the resulting substrates for their suitability for cultivation. In this way, both the composting and the establishment of the new production line quickly achieved all the necessary quality criteria.

The cooperation with Biolandes Pin Décor supports the strategic goal of focusing more on production partnerships in selected markets and using local raw materials. Decentralization will make our substrate production more flexible and climate-friendly, as transports will be shortened and raw materials will be processed with a low CO2 footprint.
