We need more of it!
Sphagnum farming workshop The most important statement came even before the event began. “We need more of it,” said Bernd Hofer, one of the world’s recognized experts on peatlands, to a small group at the welcome coffee. And for the rest of the day, the focus was on the question of how we can cultivate, extract, utilize and market peat moss outdoors on a large scale. Klasmann-Deilmann hosted the workshop “Successful peat moss farming – but how?” The event
Amicable solution found
Peat extraction in Rühlermoor ends with viable land concept Klasmann-Deilmann has ended peat extraction in the Rühlermoor Nord area. A mediation process lasting several years with numerous landowners, the oil industry and the district of Emsland has now led to an amicable solution for the subsequent use of the land. Rewetting and subsequent agricultural use have been implemented in accordance with the official requirements. The Rühlermoor Nord site is located between the Emsland municipality of Twist and the junction of

800,000 m³ of alternative components in the substrate The substrate industry in Europe is undergoing a fundamental change. Peat, the most important raw material, is increasingly being replaced by alternative components. Manufacturers are therefore investing in new production facilities and resources, as well as research and development. Nurseries also have to adapt. Dr. Sebastian Kipp, Head of Product Development at Klasmann-Deilmann, talks about the progress made in this development. For decades, horticulture was geared to peat. Kipp: In fact, one
Turning point in the substrate industry
Interview with Moritz Böcking The German government adopts a peatland protection strategy, a peat reduction strategy and a federal-state target agreement. The coalition agreement of the red-green government in Lower Saxony states that the substrate industry should give up extraction areas ahead of time. In an interview with German horticultural magazine TASPO, Moritz Böcking, Managing Director of the Klasmann-Deilmann Group and board member of the European industry association Growing Media Europe AISBL, comments on current developments. Klasmann-Deilmann produces Perlite
Securing alternative raw materials Klasmann-Deilmann has been relying on alternative raw materials in substrate manufacturing for many years. The company is pursuing the ambitious goal of increasing their share in total annual production to at least 30% by volume by 2025. The requirement for this is a secure supply of alternative raw materials. Klasmann-Deilmann has now commissioned its own Perlite production plant in Lithuania, which manufactures the modern raw material under strict quality regulations. This increases independence from external suppliers

The Sustainability Report for 2019-2021 complies with GRI Standards 2016, and the
New alternative constituent
Klasmann-Deilmann expands variety of raw materials Klasmann-Deilmann continues to make good progress in its search for safe and available alternative raw materials for substrate production. The aim is to increase their share of total annual production to at least 30% by volume till 2025. To this end, proven constituents such as GreenFibre, TerrAktiv green compost, TerrAktiv FT, perlite and coir are to be supplemented with new raw materials to ensure that the required quantities can always be provided.
