Alliance for Sustainability: “We’re part of it!”

Klasmann-Deilmann is committed to ecological, economical and social sustainability

“Wir sind dabei” (English: “We’re part of it!”) That’s the ID banner of Lower Saxony’s Alliance for Sustainability. What’s more, Klasmann-Deilmann is now also entitled to make this claim, as our commitment fulfils all the criteria.

At the end of 2017, Lower Saxony’s Alliance for Sustainability (NAN) launched the project “We’re part of it!” as a means of identifying sustainable companies in Lower Saxony. Companies in Lower Saxony may use the ID banner “We’re part of it!” for a period of two years once they fulfil the NAN criteria through various measures demonstrating their commitment to more sustainability in the company.

To be awarded the banner, companies have to be active in the three dimensions of sustainability, in other words, ecologically, economically and socially. According to the NAN criteria, this means that companies must have implemented at least one integrative measure, or one measure in each of the three areas of resource efficiency, social sustainability and economical sustainability in a scope that goes over and beyond the statutory requirements.

Resource efficiency check:

  • We are certified to the environmental management system ISO 14001.
  • Since 2015, every year two of our trainees go through the advanced training to become a “Climate Guide”.

Social sustainability check:

  • The Emsland Foundation for Job and Family certified us for the first time in 2010. The certification was reviewed in 2015 and we were once again awarded the Emsland “Hallmark for Family-Friendly Firms” which is valid until 2018.

Economical sustainability check:

  • We are certified to the quality management system ISO 9001.

“As soon as we heard about the project, we knew immediately that we wanted to get involved”, says Jan Köbbing (Head of Sustainability Management). “Sustainability is very important for us. Good examples here include our sustainability report and our carbon footprint, which is regularly ascertained.”

We have published a sustainability report every year since 2012. It is compiled according to the acknowledged GRI guidelines in the interests of comparability and transparency. “Confirmation from an independent organisation such as Lower Saxony’s Alliance for Sustainability offers important orientation particularly in times such as these where the word ‘sustainability’ is used to such an inflationary extent”, says the sustainability manager.
