Sustainability Report 2023

Our 2023 Sustainability Report is now available. In it, we look back on a decade of declining carbon footprints, rapidly increasing shares of renewable raw materials, and economic growth. The sustainable transformation of our company is gaining more and more momentum and gives us tailwind for the ambitious goals of the coming years.

We will double the proportion of renewable raw materials by 2030.

  • We have multiplied the use of renewable raw materials from 130,000 m³ in 2013 to 940,000 m³ in 2023. This now represents a 27% share of our international growing media mix.
  • By 2025, we will increase this share to 30% and by 2030, we are aiming for 50%.
  • By using alternative raw materials, we have reduced our carbon footprint at product level by almost 30%, from 91 kg CO₂e to 64 kg CO₂e.

We invest in sustainable production worldwide.

  • Since 2011, we have not acquired any new licenses for peat extraction worldwide.
  • We have reduced peat extraction from 3.7 million m³ in 2013 to 2.3 million m³ in 2023. This corresponds to a decrease of 37 %.
  • Instead, we are decentralizing our production, working with production partners and investing worldwide in renewable raw materials and companies with the relevant expertise.

We are growing while reducing our emissions.

  • Between 2013 and 2023, we increased our sales volume by 20 %.
  • Over the same period, we reduced our corporate carbon footprint from 295,000 tons of CO₂e in 2013 to 240,000 tons of CO₂e in 2023. This corresponds to a 19% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

More information on these topics and many other aspects of sustainability can be found in the report, which is free to share.
