Fruit Logistica 2024: Klasmann-Deilmann presents innovative cultivation solutions for soft fruit and vegetables
The German substrate manufacturer Klasmann-Deilmann will be exhibiting for the first time at Fruit Logistica in Berlin from 7 – 9 February. The company is strengthening its commitment to vegetable and soft fruit production and will be presenting a range of new product solutions for efficient, sustainable cultivation. Decades of expertise with growing media have led the company to develop innovative cultivation solutions that are pioneering for the requirements of today and tomorrow. This can be seen at the trade fair stand in hall 27, stand F-51.
“More and more people appreciate a healthy diet,” says Managing Director Moritz Böcking. “However, the growing global demand for high-quality food is only matched by limited arable land. Competition for land, depleted soils and extreme weather conditions make reliable cultivation difficult. For some time now, we have been realizing that the demand for high-quality growing media and cultivation systems for soilless food production is steadily increasing. We are therefore focusing on the development of modern, sustainable solutions that offer added value to users and reduce emissions for the food industry.”
Some of these new developments will be on show at the Klasmann-Deilmann stand. The new Growbag ADVANCED will be presented here for the first time to a broad international audience from the food industry. The innovative concept impresses with a completely new mixture of raw materials based on the GreenFibre® wood fibre and a reduced proportion of coir pith. The Growbag ADVANCED therefore fulfils the requirement to use local raw materials from the circular economy with a low CO2 footprint. Above all, this concept shows very good results in terms of plant cultivation, both in vegetable crops and in the cultivation of strawberries. Klasmann-Deilmann also offers high-quality coir growbags and a broad portfolio of coir products.
The new ADVANCED Substrates will be presented for the production of soft fruit in container culture. These modern mixtures offer optimum crop results and at the same time enable the increased use of renewable raw materials for more sustainable cultivation. Tried and tested substrate solutions will be on show, particularly for blueberries, such as the TS 4 Blueberry Substrate with perlite and GreenFibre® (recipe U55) as well as optimum recipes for strawberries and raspberries.
Added to this are innovations such as Growcoon and the Nygaia substrate fibre, which enrich the substrate sector with a completely new approach. These biopolymer product solutions were developed together with the Dutch company Maan Biobased Products B.V. and open up a high level of efficiency in hydroponic cultivation and vertical cultivation systems.
Nygaia is a completely new product launch and a substrate solution for the future, developed especially for growing leafy greens in floating systems. The innovative substrate fibre consists of 60% natural, bio-based raw materials and is completely biodegradable. It therefore produces neither waste nor microplastics after use. Nygaia is inert, salt-free and has an optimal water retention capacity as well as a very good air capacity, which optimally supports healthy root growth.
The Growcoon has proven itself internationally as an innovative propagation system in horticulture. Growcoon is a fully biodegradable propagation pot with an open mesh structure, also based on polymer technology. It is suitable for growing vegetables in hydroponics and is also ideal for growing strawberry young plants.
Moritz Böcking adds: “Our growing media, growbags and growing solutions support our customers in the soilless cultivation of soft fruit and vegetables and thus contribute to the sustainable supply of healthy food for the global population. Visit us at stand F-51 in hall 27 and speak directly to our experienced product managers.”
