How ProLine substrates are made
Cross-border cooperation
Our ProLine substrates are Klasmann Deilmann’s premium solution for organic horticulture. Organic horticultural businesses face a wide range of challenges today: they must avoid chemical fertilisers, adapt to alternative raw materials and, at the same time, achieve stable crops while meeting the highest certification and quality standards. Added to this are extreme weather conditions, increasing sustainability requirements and growing demand for regional, environmentally friendly products.
We have been shaping this market as a pioneer and leading supplier for over 30 years, offering organic businesses solutions that are practical, safe and future-oriented. Our substrates meet all relevant organic certifications, combine high-quality, carefully tested raw materials with innovative recipes and are produced in a closely networked production and logistics system. This ensures that organic producers can always count on a substrate that not only meets strict requirements but also provides optimal growing conditions for healthy plant growth – whether in regional herb farms or cross-border horticultural businesses.
The journey to a ProLine substrate begins long before actual production. The Klasmann Deilmann Group works closely with its partners right from the raw material procurement stage. For example, we have integrated Olde Bolhaar Eco-Service B.V., Europe’s largest producer of compost for substrates, and can therefore meet the growing demand for high-quality TerrAktiv green compost in the long term. Thanks to its excellent physical properties and high microbial activity, TerrAktiv green compost is indispensable in many ProLine recipes.
GreenFibre supplies another important component. Our wood fibre is now produced on twelve production lines. Long-term supply contracts with our wood suppliers ensure supply – even in times of scarce raw material markets. Through our exclusive partnership with Shakti Cocos B.V. in India and Sri Lanka, we also have reliable quantities of high-quality coconut raw materials for the coming decades.
These raw materials are mixed in the production companies according to precise, tested recipes. For ProLine growing media, this is done in clearly separated batches to prevent any mixing with conventional products. The mixing processes are flexible enough to meet individual customer requirements and are continuously optimised through technical measures.
Quality assurance also plays a central role. Both the raw materials used and the finished substrates are regularly tested. This includes measuring the pH value, testing the structure, analysing the nutrient content and checking for possible contaminants such as pesticide residues or heavy metals. This is monitored by RHP and Ecocert as independent testing bodies. In addition, phytosanitary documents and other certificates ensure that our products meet the applicable requirements worldwide and can be delivered smoothly. Retained samples also ensure complete traceability – an important component of quality assurance and customer confidence.
At the same time, our colleagues in Product Development & Market Support are constantly refining the ProLine recipes. They adapt the mixtures to different crops and climatic conditions, develop new fertiliser concepts for organic farming and test them in close cooperation with customers, research stations and our international sales companies.
Behind every ProLine product is the well-coordinated teamwork of many colleagues from across the Klasmann Deilmann Group. Close cooperation across sites and companies results in substrates that provide organic farms worldwide with a reliable basis for successful work.
