In the sunny south-east of Spain, in the town of Jumilla in the region of Murcia, Olea Fyton has built a reputation as a true specialist in olive propagation. With over 35 years’ experience, the nursery has devoted itself entirely to olives and now produces over 30 different varieties. For Jer\u00f3nimo Cuenca, responsible for production, this level of specialisation is not just tradition; it is the foundation of a highly refined, professional operation built around consistency, efficiency, and quality. \u201cWe have been working with olives for over 35 years,\u201d Cuenca explains, \u201cand today we root more than 30 varieties \u2014 exclusively olive.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the biggest steps forward for Olea Fyton in recent years has been the adoption of the Growcoon. \u201cWe\u2019ve been using Growcoon for around five years now,\u201d he says. \u201eIt\u2019s been a real improvement.\u201c<\/p>\n

Growcoon also aligns with Olea Fyton\u2019s sustainability and performance ambitions. As a biodegradable plug designed to break down over time the climate conditions need to be taken into account. \u201cIn our conditions, high temperatures and high humidity, Growcoon lasts about six months,\u201d notes Cuenca. \u201cAnd that\u2019s perfect for our system.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, what makes the system particularly effective at Olea Fyton is not only the Growcoon format itself, but also the combination of Growcoon with the nursery\u2019s own tailored substrate. \u201cWe use a substrate that was developed specifically for rooting olives,\u201d he says. \u201eAnd with Growcoon, we get faster rooting compared with other systems we\u2019ve tried.\u201c<\/p>\n

This improvement is important because the speed of the rooting stage directly affects the entire production calendar. Faster rooting means a higher turnover, enabling Olea Fyton to meet demand more reliably and maintain tight, predictable production planning. \u201cThe most important benefit for us is that it allows for a higher rotation,\u201d Cuenca explains. \u201eWe can move plants through the system faster.\u201c<\/p>\n

This is important because the speed of the rooting phase directly affects the entire production calendar. Faster rooting means higher turnover. This allows Olea Fyton to meet demand more reliably and maintain tight, predictable production planning. \u201eThe most important advantage for us is that it allows for higher turnover,\u201c explains Cuenca. \u201eWhen the market demands plants, Growcoon gives us the flexibility we need. We can sell plants even if they don’t have many roots yet.\u201c<\/p>\n
